Project Goals: The primary goal of the project was to create a visually compelling and culturally resonant identity for Sabor da Manhã, a coffee place inspired by Portuguese culture.
Introduction.
Sabor da Manhã is a coffee shop concept with Portuguese inspiration. The coffee shop was targeted towards various audiences, including students, corporate employees and all other local coffee lovers.
The Challenge.
The main challenge of the project was capturing the essence of Portuguese tradition while ensuring the brand remained relevant and appealing to modern audiences.
Additionally, the visual identity needed to differentiate Sabor da Manhã from competitors and evoke the vibrant atmosphere of Lisbon’s streets.
Solution.
We decided that the best approach for this visual identity was about:
– Careful balancing of traditional elements with contemporary design aesthetics;
– Creative interpretation and adaptation of cultural references to maintain relevance and coherence;
– Extensive research and creative exploration to capture the essence of Lisbon’s colors and atmosphere.
Process.
Research and discovery: The design process began with extensive research into Portuguese culture, architecture, and design motifs, with a particular focus on azulejos (ceramic tiles) and the vibrant colors of Lisbon’s streets.
Brainstorming and concept development: Concepts were sketched out and explored, experimenting with different visual elements, typography, and color palettes to find the most compelling direction.
Feedback and iteration: Initial design concepts were presented to the client for feedback and review, allowing for collaborative refinement and iteration.
Design exploration: Design elements such as patterns, symbols, and imagery inspired by azulejos were integrated into the visual identity.
Documentation and implementation: The final design direction was documented in comprehensive style guides and brand guidelines, providing clear instructions for implementation across all touchpoints.
Execution.
The final design was executed across various touchpoints, including signage, packaging and menus. Each element was meticulously crafted to reflect the brand’s identity and values, while also maintaining visual consistency and coherence.
