Subsign Spotlight #109: Mălina Brînză.

With a purple sparkle in her eyes, a witty way of writing, and a great sense of humor, Mălina is a great example of how passion can become your job without having to force anything.

Subsign: First, can you tell us a few things about yourself?

Mălina: Purpely hello, everyone! Here is Mălina, a very absolutely crazy passionate Social Media Specialist. Why am I describing myself only from the professional point of view? Maybe because I am a freelancer, let’s put it like that :)) I am also an art lover and I truly believe that this is my purest drive when it comes to Social Media and all of my personal daily activities. Hihi, I have a tattoo with „ART” on my right hand as proof of that :))

Subsign: How do you think your childhood experiences have influenced your professional endeavors?

Mălina: My childhood is the most beautiful definition of who I am at this very moment. Even though I haven’t realized that until 1 year ago, I’ve always been attracted by the communication field. I was that kid who was organizing entertainment events in my neighborhood at 11-12 years old. I also had a magazine called „Mircea” from the name of my neighborhood which was actually written, designed and printed only by myself. And only bought by my mom, unfortunately :)). I was talking all the time (maybe too much, haha) and that totally reflects on what I’m doing now as a Social Media Specialist.

Subsign: What did you want to be as a grown-up?

Mălina: I remember perfectly that I was calling myself „Lawyer Mălina Brînză” because I thought it sounded nice. So, yes, I wanted to be a lawyer, maybe because some of my relatives work in this field, but this is the only viable reason.

Subsign: What does your workstation look like?

Mălina: Soooo, here is my very fancy workstation in my bedroom. I have tried to decorate it with a vision board full of thoughts and motivational images and candles all around. But I have to say that I rarely work from here. Instead of that, I prefer doing my thing from different cafes and coworking spaces here, in Iași because of the cozy and always very diverse atmosphere.

Subsign: Do you have a workflow/process for your tasks? How would you describe it?

Mălina: As a freelancer, I have to stay organized in order to keep myself in control of everything I do. And not to feel that I overtask myself. What I do specifically is always set my general plan for the next week at the end of the week and not only for my work as a Social Media Specialist but also for my personal plans and faculty things (I forgot that I hadn’t mentioned that I’m a PR & Communication Student in my last year).

Every day I note my daily tasks and I set slots of time for every one of them. One of the biggest challenges of working in Social Media is keeping yourself distracted by Social Media stuff while creating content for a purpose. But, let’s be honest, sometimes life happens, and, even if I’m a very organized person, there are some cases when I can’t control everything around me.

Subsign: What is your favorite work you have done so far? (no matter how small or big of a project/task)

Mălina: I am proud of every single project, but the one that I’m working on daily is my Instagram community. I do not have enough words to describe how happy and grateful I am for those people. Being surrounded by people who are as passionate as you, who are always keen on learning and improving themselves when it comes to Social Media, and not only that. This is the magic of what I am creating.

Subsign: Who do you follow for inspiration?

Mălina: I find inspiration in everything, especially in people. So, my recommendations for you are from different areas, not only specifically Social Media Specialists: • Mihaela LemnaruBianca ZenMădălina VasiuCristina Oțel.

Subsign: What advice would you give someone starting out in your field of work?

Mălina: Work hard, but also smart. Be passionate, be curious, be brave, be consistent, do not think about others’ opinions (I know, I know, it might sound like a cliche) and take care of yourself. You are not only your work.

Subsign: If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Mălina: Hmmm, maybe to go back in time because I’m a nostalgic old grandma.

Subsign: Can you recommend to our readers a book, a song, and a movie?

Mălina: Sure, absolutely, but I don’t want to say anything about them: • book – „Pauza de publicitate” (Liviu David) • song – anything from Dua Lipa (it’s pure art and very vibey) • movie – „Boyhood”.

Subsign: If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and who would be there?

Mălina: I totally love parties and my fav’ type is nostalgia. Give us some Romanian songs from 2003 – 2009, a disco globe and we’ll drive ourselves like crazy. Wanna join?
