This week we have in our Spotlight\u00a0George Ro\u0219u. We are fans of his work for a long time now, and we are more than proud to have him answer a few of our questions.<\/span><\/p>\n

My name is George Ro\u0219u. I live and work in Cluj for now. People say I\u2019m an illustrator but they are wrong. These days I\u2019m trying to get rid of the \u201cillustrator\u201d label and change it back to \u201cartist\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Subsign: What was your childhood like? Do you think your experiences from childhood have influenced your present creative endeavors?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: When I\u2019m looking back at my childhood it seems a lot of fun now, but at that time it used to feel hard at some point. Childhood influences everything in one’s personality, so yes it is important in the later creative state.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsign: What did you want to be as a grown up?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: I wanted to be a detective for some time and I like to think that I use detective skills in my work \u2014The looking, analyzing and taking notes part.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Subsign: How does your workstation look like?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: I have two places where I do my work. A working table at home (picture A) and a studio I rented for bigger and messier works (picture B). They both look like hell as you can see.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsign: Do you have a work style? How would you describe it?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: I work (too) fast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsign: Can you share with us how your creative process works?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: It starts with the idea. This could be anything: a word, a phrase, an image, some news I read, a poem etc. That is the research part. Then I make a drawing and write something under it. Sometimes that’s it. Sometimes it’s fun.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsign: What is your favorite work you have done so far?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: It usually is my latest one.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsign: Who do you follow for inspiration?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: Ordinary people are the best inspiration.<\/span> <\/p>\n

Subsign: What advice would you give to someone starting out in the creative field of work?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: To try hard to really be creative in finding the solutions they use in the creative process instead of following trends. Creativity is the path itself we take to the final work and we can\u2019t cheat in finding the path. We have to find it. You can\u2019t learn to be creative. You can only allow yourself to become creative. This takes time and a lot of work with yourself (at first) and with the tools you choose after. OMG! I sound like the old Kung Fu master in the Bruce Lee movies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsign: If you would have a super power, what would it be?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: Stopping time. I would like to be The Time Stopper.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Subsign: Can you recommend for our readers a book, a song and a movie?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: No! Go out in the sun and look at real people and places! They are fun and you can learn useful things just by looking. Make your own books and songs and movies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsign: If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and what would it be for?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: I don\u2019t like parties, so it would be a private one with my cat and I. She would sleep and I would watch old movies and eat chips. Sounds like a lot of fun, doesn\u2019t it?
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsign: What famous people would you invite to the party and why?<\/span><\/p>\n

George<\/span>: Dead people don\u2019t go to parties \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n
