Because we encounter every single week the question of: “How do I get my business started on Social Media?”, we have decided to show you 4 simple steps on how to get started.
Firstly, claim your brand name. Seems easy, but you might be surprised how many times people already registered company names as their own.
If your company name is taken, make sure to find a combination that is easy and suitable for your company. In the same time, you need to make sure that the name of page/profile is easy to remember.
Second, don’t stay on just one platform. No matter your audience, there are for sure more than one social media platform that they are using. You can go from Facebook to Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Medium or even Google Plus.
Before choosing where to be present, make sure to clearly define your audience and your objectives. Then, get familiar with each platform: how they work and how can they help you reach your targeted audience.
For example, we are present on many different platforms due to the differences between our audience segments. We post on Behance and Dribbble to be closer to the design community through our work. In the same time, we post on LinkedIn/Facebook/Twitter/Medium in order for our articles to reach the right persona.
Plan and strategize.
Now that you have your company on different social platforms, make sure to plan in advance. You might be thinking: What’s the point of this? You just post things. Well, we are sorry to disappoint you.
In order to keep your audience engaged, you have to make sure to post frequently on each social media channel you have. In this way, you make sure to always be present in the feed (and mind) of your potential client.
By planning, you get to pin down important content that needs to be made in advance. In the same time, you can make sure to mix your content. Don’t post the same thing over and over again, people get bored.
Create a different type of content: article, photos, explainer/animated videos, product offers, testimonials or good case practices. And these are just a few of the examples you can make.
For us, creating content is a planned and ongoing activity. We have the article, interviews, and recommendations planned in advance. But at the same time, we keep an eye on everything that is happening around us and that can be transformed into content.
One of the more spontaneous parts happens on Insta Stories. Basically, the feature is made for you to quickly communicate with your audience little details or less important information than an actual post.
Community building strategy.
Besides creating content, you need to create a community. Just people seeing your posts is not enough. In order for them to engage, you need them to feel like they are a part of something bigger, a community.
With this in mind, you can create content that helps the community not only showcases your brand/products. People don’t care anymore about products since there are so many of them on the market. But telling a story, coming with a solution to their problems and going beyond your product, helps you a lot more in the long run.
As you may or may not know, Facebook has announced that Pages will have to invest to be present in people’s feed. But, what you can do, is invest in a Facebook group. For example, we have a Digital Marketing group where people can post job offers, news, good case practices and ask for advice from the other members.
We know, it’s easier to just post photos or share other people content. While that is OK, you need to go beyond that. It’s hard to create diverse content in order to keep your audience engaged. But, it’s not impossible.
Take into consideration every possibility that the great internet brings. You can make stop motions, animation videos, vlog style ones, insta stories, have guest posts on your blog or engage your colleagues to contribute to your social media.
This way, you make sure to attract different types of audiences. Of course, the tone of voice and copy matter too. But as long as you are willing to go the extra mile it will help you secure a spot in the audience’s mind.
